Magnitude of damage from flash flooding in Pakistan:
Pakistan has suffered immensely from the recent flash floods, resulting from heavy rains. These rains have been recorded as three times greater than the national average for the last 30 years. Approximately 84 districts (32 in Baluchistan, 9 in Gilgit Baltistan, 17 in KP, 3 in Punjab and 23 in Sindh) are affected. As a result of devastation of such magnitude has left nearly 1,638 dead and 12,865 injured. There are 33 million flood affectees which include 16 million children and 8.2 million women of reproductive age. As per UNFPA approximations, there are about 650,000 pregnant women in the flood affected areas with nearly 73,000 that are expected to give birth in next month. All these women will require antenatal care along with safe birth and childcare facilities. Furthermore, nearly 0.8 million and 1.2 million houses that have been fully and partially destroyed respectively during this calamity
