a) Qualitative Need Assessment
The Qualitative Need Assessment conducted, highlighted a strong need for Family Planning (FP) services in the project’s districts. The survey’s findings were shared with the RAF donors and these findings have also served as the building blocks for designing the project’s Baseline tools.
The need assessment survey; based on Focus Group Discussions (FGD); was successfully carried out during the project’s inception phase.

b) Geographical and Household Mapping Activities

Mapping activities comprised of identifying, locating, numbering and recruiting areas, population and service providers respectively for the purpose of implementing the project’s operations. Mapping activities were successfully carried out in all the study locations mentioned above.
c) Quantitative Baseline Household Survey
Baseline survey has been carried out effectively in the districts of Naushero Feroze, Khanewal, Haripur, Pakpattan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Abbotabad and Nawabshah. Its purpose was to highlight prevalent contraceptive knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, uptake, birth-spacing trends and levels of unwanted pregnancy and abortion

d) Training and Evaluation of Service Providers of the Intervention Districts

Service providers have been trained by MSS and evaluated for service provision by third party consultants/Gynaecology specialists (to eliminate biasness). This training has resulted in recruitment of a strong and professionally sound group of Suraj PPs in Naushero Feroze, Khanewal and Haripur along with equally capable CMWs in Pakpattan and Rajanpur.

“This training has provided everyone participating in it an excellent opportunity for updating their practical knowledge of high quality Family Planning services.” Commented by the Deputy Director MNCH Punjab during the Ranjanpur CMW training.

Approved intervention activities by the project’s Suraj Providers were initiated on 14th Mar 2011 in the districts of Naushero Feroze, Khanewal and Haripur.
CMWs in Pakpattan have also initiated services on 28th Mar 2011 and in Rajanpur on 18th May 2011

Project’s Male Community Mobilizers (MCM) have carried out 2-3 CSG meetings in each of the service provider districts (except Rajanpur). The purpose was to recruit male key stake holders and prominent community members to endorse the family planning services being provided by the Suraj PPs or CMWs of the respective district.

CSG meeting in all the intervention districts (except Rajanpur) have been met with a positive response along with commitments for future cooperation by the local communities in endorsing the family planning services being provided

Outcome: The attendees thoroughly appreciated the CSG effort and promised commitment for assisting in arranging of future CSG sessions in the community.

Attendees: The CSG was attended by 11 prominent community members, having a diverse background ranging from local politicians (Naib Nazim/Assistant Counsellor), shop keepers, merchants, teachers and doctors, etc.
